The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival (端午节), is one of the most important traditional Chinese celebrations, observed on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It has been celebrated for over 2,000 years and symbolizes loyalty, remembrance, protection, and good health.
The festival honors the memory of Qu Yuan (屈原), a patriotic poet and minister who sacrificed himself for his country. People raced out in boats to save him, which became the tradition of dragon boat racing today.
Another well-known tradition is eating zongzi (粽子) — sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves. These symbolize unity, blessings, and protection from misfortune.
The greeting “端午安康” (Duanwu Ankang) means wishing peace, safety, and good health during the festival. Unlike “Happy Dragon Boat Festival,” this greeting carries deeper blessings for wellness and harmony.
